Cultural Highlights: What’s On in Monaco in 2017?

Monaco is a small country, but it packs a lot of events into 12 months and two square kilometres of space. The prestigious Principality enjoys a rich sports and cultural programme that benefits from no expense being spared. Monaco offers an endless array of year-round entertainment to its residents and visitors for both business and pleasure. Those who live in the luxury apartments of Monaco have a fantastic range of events to look forward to in 2017. We’ve highlighted the main events below, but there are a host of other smaller events, exhibitions and shows to look forward to throughout the year.

Monte Carlo International Circus Festival (19th-29th January)

The International Circus Festival was created in 1974 by Prince Rainier III and has become one of the most prestigious circus events in the world. Presided over by Princess Stephanie of Monaco, talented International circus acts compete for the ‘Golden Clown’ award by performing acrobatics and other entertaining and amazing feats. It’s a great event for families and people of all ages.

The Monte Carlo Rally (19th-22nd January)

The much-loved Monte Carlo Rally will kick off the Principality’s racing events as it always does in January. However, this year the route is radically different with the only similarities being Thursday evening’s traditional start outside Monaco’s famous casino and Sunday’s post-rally podium ceremony in front of the palace. More than 85 percent of the route will be new compared with the 2016 event and will cover terrain across the Alps and Monaco.

Monte Carlo Rolex Tennis Masters (15th-23rd April)

This key fixture on the professional circuit takes place in the legendary setting of the Monte Carlo Country Club with its iconic views. It now ranks as one of the nine super tennis tournaments in the world and attracts top players such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal who won last years final as part of a seven year winning streak.

Top Marques Monaco (20th-23rd April)

Top Marques Monaco has quickly become the one of the world’s premier supercar shows. It is held at the Grimaldi Forum and showcases the best of the luxury supercar industry. It’s aimed at everyone not just car enthusiasts with yachts, footwear, accessories, jewellery, real estate and wine products as just some of the industries represented. Manufacturers from all over the world choose this niche exhibition as the ideal place to present their most exclusive products and latest developments.

Monaco Historic Grand Prix (25th-27th May)

Preceding the main Grand Prix event, Monte Carlo Historic Grand Prix is a retrospective of the golden age of car racing on the famous track using the roads that haven’t changed since the first race took place on April 14, 1929.

Monaco Grand Prix (28th May)

Undoubtedly the most famous event that takes place every year is Formula One’s Grand Prix on Monaco’s world famous street circuit. This year will be no different and tickets are already on sale for the event. The track is the most technically demanding in the F1 Championships and it’s hairpin bends and narrow roads guarantee a lot of thrills. The international jet set will arrive for a weekend of exclusive parties and celebrations and it’s not necessary to be a sports fan to enjoy the electric atmosphere the race generates.

Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival (July-August)

This summer festival has been going strong since 1974, and is based around dinner galas with performances by some of the most famous names in the music industry such as Lenny Kravitz, Tony Bennett, and Lady Gaga.  Local residents take this opportunity to dress up and enjoy an amazing night of entertainment.

The Monaco Yacht Show (27th-30th September)

Every September, the yachting community take the opportunity to finish the season in style at one of the largest and most prestigious yachting events in the world.  The MYS features exhibits from 500 leading luxury yachting companies including brokerages, designers and nautical suppliers. It also has exhibitors from other luxury industries such as travel and jewellery, and is a great place to seek out outrageously luxurious items in the shadow of the finest superyachts.

Art Monaco (October)

Art Monaco is a wonderful annual festival set within both established and emerging galleries in Monaco. It’s the most opulent art festival on the Riviera and displays over 4,000 art pieces for exhibition and sale.

Monte Carlo Jazz Festival (Late November)

Featuring some of the world’s greatest jazz artists and musicians, the Monte Carlo Jazz Festival is an essential experience for jazz fans. Under the high patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the two-week celebration at the  prestigious Salle Garnier at the Opéra de Monte Carlo is a smart affair and a jacket is obligatory.
