The current snow report for ski resorts near Monaco make essential reading for those wishing to begin 2016 in style. With the variety of different destinations available, knowing exactly what you will find a world away from the waters of the Mediterranean makes choosing a resort an easier process. Despite the unusually mild winter weather conditions prevailing, there is still plenty of mountain activity to be enjoyed, even before nightfall.
Auron Snow Report
Auron has experienced the heaviest snowfall, with a 10cm covering in the last 24 hours. The upper slopes offer 40cm, while 45cm and 30cm of snow rest on the middle and lower slopes respectively. 11 of its 43 runs and 11 of 19 lifts are open, with up to 8cm further snowfall expected before Sunday. Sunshine and clear skies are to be enjoyed, with temperatures warming from -7 to 1 degree Celsius as cloud cover builds towards the weekend.
Isola Snow Report
Across the valley, Isola 2000 enjoyed 10cm of fresh snow on 2 January. This served to supplement the machine-made powder, resulting in current depths of 35cm on both upper and lower slopes. 9 of 19 lifts are open, whilst conditions are reported as being good on the 15 open pistes and variable off-piste. A further 30cm of snow is expected in the next 9 days. Cloud cover is expected to peak on Thursday before receding by the weekend to leave sunshine in keeping with present conditions.
Valberg Snow Report
Conditions are also good in Valberg. 6cm of snowfall over the past 48hrs has left 20cm of packed powder on slopes at all altitudes. 5 of 23 lifts are open, with 9 of 56 runs available. No further snowfall is scheduled over the next week. Clear skies and sunshine are expected towards the weekend, following a slightly gloomier day on Thursday. Winds are fairly light, with a stronger southerly breeze on Friday.
Limone Snow Report
If Italy is the destination of choice, the relaxed atmosphere in the resort of Limone Piemonte may be a deciding factor rather than the skiing this week. Only 2 of 15 lifts and 2 of 42 trails are in operation. Although 10cm of snow has fallen in the last 72 hours, machine made snow leaves depths of 20cm at the summit and 5cm at base level. Temperatures are expected to range between -1 and -11 degrees Celsius with no fresh snowfall in the coming week.
