Restaurant Review – La Cabanon – Cap D’Ail

Restaurant le Cabanon Cap d Ail

Restaurant le Cabanon Cap d Ail

The French Riviera is blessed with some of the finest restaurants and bars in Europe with the Principality of Monaco in particular boasting enough Michelin-stars to eat seriously gourmet food every night of the week, if you so wish.
It’s without doubt one of the most glamourous places on the planet, and if you are looking to dine like a duchess, you will find no shortage of top notch restaurants in which to eat.

But sometimes, less is more, and for those of you seeking somewhere simpler to dine, we have just the answer. Just a few miles from the glitz and glamour of Monaco’s luxury real estate and hotels is a tiny patch of paradise on which you will find Le Cabanon; a restaurant built on the same culinary standards at its Monegasque counterparts yet is set in a world apart.

Ideally positioned on the picturesque headland between Plage Mala and Monaco, the somewhat innocuous ‘cabin’ which you could easily saunter straight passed serves some of the best seafood in the area in a location which is second to none. In fact, with uninterrupted views towards the sea over the beautiful and refreshingly natural promontory, it is a miracle that this haven of unsophistication has been left as it is. The cabin is said to have belonged to a local who used to while away the hours looking at to sea before cooking up a feast with the fish brought to him but his fisherman friends.

After years of abandonment, it was then restored by the current owner Jean Botticini who turned it into the hugely successful restaurant it is today. The food served at Le Cabanon is certainly worth the gentle amble along the coastal path called the Chemin des Douaniers but the real triumph of this restaurant is that it remains simple, and true to its roots. Open all day from April to September, it’s the perfect place to come for a coffee during a bracing walk along the headland.

Equally, you won’t find many better spots to sip the first glass of wine of the evening, a game of pétanque being played out in front of your very eyes. Le Cabanon is also available to rent for private events such as weddings, and quite honestly, we can’t think of anywhere more perfect to celebrate arguably the most important day of your life.
